French Toast

French toast, a popular breakfast item in the West is made of sliced bread soaked in beaten eggs, milk and sugar and then pan fried with butter. It can also be air fried. In many parts of the world it is also eaten as an afternoon treat or evening dessert and is generally served with maple syrup, whipping cream or ice cream.

I like making this toast for breakfast mainly because my daughter loves it and is a good change from the normal Indian breakfast that we have everyday. The best part is that with so many toppings there is an endless variety of French toast you can make. Today, I'm sharing the basic French toast recipe but very soon I'll come up with an exciting variation which I'm sure the kids would love it. The lotus French toast...stay tuned!

To get the French toast right never use fresh bread. They tend to become soggy when you dip them in the egg mixture.

Prep time : 5 mins

Cooking time : 10 mins

Serves : 4

Ingredients :

1 egg

1/4 cup Milk

4 slices Bread

1 tsp Vanilla essence

1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder

1 Tbspn Butter

Method:

In a shallow dish start by beating an egg, vanilla essence, cinnamon powder in milk. Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture and make sure it's coated evenly on both sides. Heat a griddle or a skillet on medium heat, add butter and cook the bread until browned on both sides.

Alternatively, you can also brush the air fryer with some butter and place the bread slices in the air fryer and fry them till they are brown in color from both sides. Serve with toppings of your choice and maple syrup or with whipping cream and chocolate sauce or caramel sauce or even with ice cream and berries.
